Steinerskolen på Skjold i Bergen
A school for students with special needs
Teaching takes a more practical approach and workshops replace traditional class-rooms. An existing building was supplemented by 4 new buildings forming a compound with 2 courtyards. The school’s layout enhances active movement in the daily routine and interaction between the departments and with the outdoors. Besides several workshops the school houses a sound-studio and a canteen for 60 students. The main construction consists of solid wood elements, being the first one of its kind in western Norway. All wooden elements are left visible on the inside, contributing to the heavy-duty style of the school compound. The client’s requests for environmental-friendly and low-maintenance products were vital for the choice of materials throughout the building.
