Over the years 3RW has been involved in numerous cultural building-projects in Bergen. This year we participated in the hyped competition for Sentralbadet, which tasked us to transform a former public swimming hall into a modern centre for performing arts. We congratulate the winning proposal!
This competition was close to our hearts, and we are very proud of having been in the race. Our team covered a range of professions and specializations that are required for such a complex project: OBAS Vest, COWI, Atelier Oslo, Schjelderup & Gram, Østengen & Bergo, Andrea Spreafico and Sigve Sælensminde. nrml.studio has visualized our work.
The transformation of Sentralbadet into a new performing arts centre for BIT and Carte Blanche is driven by the idea of renewal and protection through use. Sentralbadet’s form, function and structure are built into Bergen’s collective memory. The function is changing but the building’s iconic shape and materiality are the key to its new life. Reuse is the fundamental guideline for our development of the project and informed our entire design process from initial sketches to the finished building for theatre and dance.
Enjoy a glimpse of our work!
