We traveled to Stavanger yesterday to deliver and present our vision for the prime Paradis waterfront area, which will be developed by the city’s municipality in a near future. With our collaborators Dronninga Landskap (landscape) and A/STAB (infrastructure), we developed a masterplan inspired by Stavanger’s tight wood housing neighborhoods, with its calibrated volumes, fun in-between spaces, and generous connection to nearby blue and green elements. Our focus on mixed typologies and roof expressions creates a distinct, fragmented profile (which, if built, will be highly visible) and so is key to the project’s contextual integration and success. Finally, circular principles as well as social sustainability inform the design and placement of diverse buildings and activities. The importance of this site for the good development of Stavanger cannot be understated; we prioritized future-oriented infrastructure and quality living amenities that ensure enough flexibility for coming times, programs and people.
Preliminary illustrations of our proposal show our team’s approach to landscape, form and function, and the project’s strong connection to Hillevågsvatnet.
