Bybanen Light Train Extension
From car based city development to collective planning for the new green city
In the latter half of the 20th century, Bergen experienced a huge increase of private tourism at the same time as the city was transforming into a decentralized and car-based suburban society. When Bergen reached the point where it could no longer withstand these developments in terms of infrastructure and pollution, the construction of Bybanen (the light rail) became the key step to densify the city and connect its residents. The newest light rail route to Fyllingsdalen via Mindemyren will provide 20,000 new jobs and has the important target of serving Haukeland hospital with its 12,000 employees, patients and visitors.
