The structure is made of aluminium in the form of trusses which are bolted together. This is to achieve a quick and efficient mounting and dismounting. Parts of the walls are made of light translucent sandwich panels that allow light into the pavilion. Inside the panels there are LED lights that can change colour and brightness so that the colour and mood can be adjusted. This gives a special atmosphere to the different seasons and the dark Nordic winter nights.
The City Pavilion is used in connection with major festivals like the Bergen International Festival, Nattjazzen and the Øya Festival in Oslo. For several years, it gave the base to the world’s largest gingerbread exhibition on Torgalmenningen in Bergen.
